Through the General Assembly Committees of Commissioners (CoC) PCA pastors and ruling elders, and through them our churches, have a direct role in the accountability and oversight of GA-level PCA ministries.
Designed as part of the checks and balances in our PCA government, the CoCs review the year’s ministry accomplishments and plans for each GA Committee and Agency, along with the reports and recommendations included in the Commissioner Handbook. All Committee and Agency recommendations must have CoC approval before being presented to the Assembly.
The Committees of Commissioners, one for each GA Committee and Agency, are made up of teaching and ruling elders chosen by their presbyteries according to a formula set forth in the Rules of Assembly Operation (RAO). Every presbytery is granted representatives on every CoC; in practice, however, few if any CoCs actually have broad representation.
Commissioners, don’t miss out on this opportunity to serve, to learn, and to influence the work of the PCA. Please prayerfully consider being a part of a CoC during General Assembly. Notify your Presbytery Stated Clerk that you are registered as a commissioner and sign up to serve on a Committee of Commissioners.
For more information on the Committees of Commissioners see RAO chapter 14.
